Ball Park Music

About

Ball Park Music are the kind of band Brisbane produces and then refuses to let go of. Formed in 2008 by Sam Cromack while studying music at university, the five-piece — Cromack, Jennifer Boyce, Paul Furness, and twins Dean and Daniel Hanson — have spent nearly two decades making indie rock that is simultaneously melancholic and life-affirming, sad and funny, intimate and anthemic. Eight studio albums. Five consecutive top 10 ARIA debuts. A reputation for one of the most joyful live shows in Australian music. They are the band you discover at 19 and never stop loving. Their sound has always defied easy categorisation — Elliott Smith's honest wit, the Avalanches' genre-blending instincts, something uniquely Brisbane in the warmth and self-deprecation of it all. Songs like Getaway and She Said I Am The Best I'll Never Have have become part of the emotional furniture of a generation of Australian music fans. Ball Park Music are a Brisbane institution. Not in the dusty, ceremonial sense — in the sense that they show up, keep making records that matter, and fill rooms with people who know every word.
