About
Kate Miller-Heidke is one of the most technically gifted performers Brisbane has ever produced. The classically trained soprano turned indie-pop artist has spent two decades making music that refuses to be categorised — operatic vocals over electronic production, theatrical songwriting that is also genuinely radio-friendly. Her 2009 breakthrough Caught in the Crowd remains one of the finest Australian songs of the 21st century — a story of schoolyard cruelty told with devastating precision that won Triple J's Hottest 100. She represented Australia at Eurovision 2019 with Zero Gravity — performing on a giant pole twenty feet in the air — and somehow made it feel completely natural. Brisbane should be prouder of her than it is.
