WAAX are one of Brisbane's finest rock bands — a five-piece whose music hits with emotional and physical force in equal measure. Lead singer Marie DeVita is one of the most commanding frontpeople in Australian rock, and the band behind her matches that energy completely. Their 2019 debut album Big Grief announced them as something genuinely exciting. Their 2023 follow-up At Least I'm Free confirmed it. WAAX make rock music that feels urgent and alive — songs about grief, resilience, identity and survival delivered with the kind of conviction that reminds you why rock music exists.
